My hooves made a deep thud on the Earth as I flew across the land. I burst through a thin forest and into many rolling meadows. I threw my delicate head in the air and quickened my pace. My heart pounded in my chest to the beat of my hooves, my breath quick and short. I surveyed my surroundings and smelt the air. I grumbled as I smelt a faint scent of a stallion in this area. My mane and tail whipped around beside me as I kept my speed, hoping my presence wasn't known by any other horses that may reside here. I tore across the lands and toward a river, I knew I would soon need a break, and some water. I slowed and trotted up to the cool body of water. I dipped my velvet muzzle into the water and drank many gulps of the refreshing water. My ears were alert and I was ready to defend myself if anything should happen. My liver chestnut pelt shined from sweat and the sun, I had been running since daybreak.

The day was hot and all Hirisho could hear all around him was the sound of buzzing flies trying to get to his pelt but his long tail kept most of them at bay by swishing back and forth on each side. This time of the day in this season always drove him crazy because of the flies but once he ran across his territory the flies were left behind. He snorted to himself and went over to one of the many dirt spots that were on his territory. Once he was on top of the spot he got down on his knees and then down to his side before kicking up his feet just to whinny with pleasure. Once his rolling was done he got back on all fours and shook off any loose dirt the clung to his chestnut pelt. He heard the sound of another horse and a second later he smelled the other horse's scent knowing at once that it was a mare. He perked up his ears due to curiosity before galloping the site where he thought the mare would be. Once he got over one final hill he stopped and saw the mare drinking from the stream. He snorted once fore before making his way slowly down to her hoping that he wouldn't scare her.

I took a couple more large gulps of water, enjoying the feeling in my stomach. Suddenly my ears flipped to the back, hearing another horse. I knew there was another like me here. I glanced behind me at a chestnut stallion. I lifted my head slowly and turned my head behind me to get a better look at him. My muscles tensed and my thin tail slightly tucked near my strong hind legs, instead of swatting away the pesky flies and gnats. I turned 90 degrees and glared at the stallion, challenging him to try and hurt me. My neck was stretched out and my ears flattened on my neck. A quiet, defensive nicker came from the dark lips that sat at the end of my head. I took a couple steps back, my hind hooves going into the shallow part of the river. Though the stallion looked kind, you can never judge a book by its cover.

Hirisho stopped moving when he got to the bottom of the hill and just looked at the mare. His ears perked forward out of curiosity when she turned ninety degrees just to glare at him. He heard the nicker and snorted a little while standing tall. He nickered softly to the mare trying to make her calm down at least. He had a feeling that a stallion had made her like this but wasn't too sure and he wasn't about to ask when this was their first time seeing each other. He kept his right eye and ear on her as he went left slowly. He liked looking at her and wondering how in the world she got such a face marking. He knew it was out of genetics but he still wondered why before coming to the river bed. He whinnied at her letting it feel light and happy before sticking his muzzle into the river just to drink. He could feel the coolness of the water going down his throat before bringing his muzzle back up and just noticing that she looked sweaty and irritated. "Excuse me but would you possible like to know where a dirt spot is? It can make those flies and gnats stop bugging you for a while." he asked and then wondered what the mare would say to his request.

I snorted as he talked, my eyes darting from him to the hills and trees. I looked for a dirt spot, yes it did sound good. The muscles under my skin rippled as I moved slightly, finding a good amount of dirt a couple strides away. "I am perfectly fine on my own, thank you" I said, a hint of sourness in my tone. I strode over to the dirt patch, keeping an eye on the chestnut. I lowered my from side, fallowed by my backside, feeling better as soon as I laid down. I shifted to the side and stretched my legs out. I snorted slightly, then kicked my legs up and curved my back, I didn't fully roll over. I kicked up again and rolled to the other side. I took a relieving breath and rolled over again. I shut my eyes for a moment as I laid on my side, but opened them again and watched the stallion. I stood up again and shook out my coat violently. I stretched out my whithers and stood stiff as I came to my senses that he should not be trusted.

Hirisho's ears went back and he stomped his front right hoof showing a little anger when she said her comment with a little sourness in it. But once he did that action he felt better and straightened back up while his ears scanned the area around them with his ears flying everywhere and eyes constantly moving around. Ever since he was small his mom always told him that when he had land of his own and mares on that land no matter what he was suppose to protect them even if the mares weren't his because mares were the ones who made the herd. Once he noticed that she had finished her dirt roll he nickered a little to her. "Does that feel better mare?" he said, trying to be as respectful as possible to her since her mom was right on mares are the one that made the herd. While the stallion is suppose to be the guardian of this herd.

My head turned to the stallion as he spoke to me. "Yes, I suppose it does feel a bit better," I said and a quiet sigh came from my lungs. I stepped back over to the river, my ears lay limp on my neck. I didn't really like the dirt on my skin, it caked on the places where the sweat seeped through my coat. I put my front legs into the shallow water, then kicked up one leg, splashing water on my stomach and sides. Now that felt good, the water cooled my skin and relieved the hot sticky feeling on my coat. I glanced at the stallion, he seemed paranoid, looking around constantly. "There's no one else here stallion," I told him plainly, "I just ran through this whole land, I didn't see anyone," I shook my head and walked out of the water and to a lush part of grass, I nibbled on it slowly. Soon I would go, leave this stallion to his land and his mares, wherever they were. I just needed a little time off from running and I could get recharged. I wanted to keep running, I didn't know where I was going to go, but I liked the feeling. I glanced up at the stallion once more and wondered what he was thinking.

"I just don't want you to get into any danger. That's why I'm looking around so much." Hirisho said, knowing that her 'no one else here' comment came from his ears and eyes moving constantly. "Mares are the herd after all. Us stallions are only the guardians." he said, before sighing slightly due to an urge to see his mother again since he was using her sayings. "Anyway..." he said, before shaking his head. "So where are you going to go after this mare? Because if you have no where else to go you can always stay here and be apart of my herd.If I ever get one that is." he said, saying the last sentence softly and to himself since he didn't like sharing the fact that he didn't have a herd yet. All he needed was one mare to get it started and hopefully this was that mare.

The last comment from him sparked my attention, so he didn't have a herd. "I'm just going to keep running I guess," I told him and shrugged, "Running is my passion, ever since..." I muttered, but didn't finish my sentence, ever since I had to run from my father to avoid him beating me. I sighed and dropped my eyes to the grass, my tail swished sadly as my mind become clouded with the horrid thoughts. A shiver seemed to rush over my skin and I shut my eyes tight for a couple moments before opening them again. I nipped at the grass and snorted, trying to clear my mind. I looked up at the stallion and wondered if he had such horrid memories as I did. I felt bad now for intruding his land and not being the nicest to him. But I knew I couldn't trust him, and soon he would be out of my life.

Hirisho noticed that she was sad after her comment and couldn't help but walk a little bit toward her. "I can see that running is a favorite of yours. You can stay here and run here. You won't have to worry about food or water and there is a river plus plenty of dirt piles." he said, talking as gently as he could when he stopped in front of her. "I'm Hirisho and this is Rolling Meadows. You won't have to run away from this place plus when get more than enough cold breezes due to the north where I came from." he said, before nudging her gently. "You won't have to be sacred of anything either." he said, while one of the breezes he talked about came and blew his tail and mane gently while he looked at her with wonderment. "I will treat you like you would want to be treated. Not like some stallions who think that all mares are property or trophies." he said, snorting and stamping his foot getting mad from just the thought of those kind of stallions.

I shied away from him and took in a sharp breath as he nudged me, afriad he would hurt me. "or treat you like a punching bag" I whispered to myself. I kept my eyes down and away from him, my body slightly shivered since he was so close. The breeze picked up my mane and tail and blew it sideways gently, making a slight wave. I took a deep breath and thought about his offer, wondering if he would stick to what he said and treat me like I wanted to be treated. A soft whimper came from my lungs, I thought I was stronger, not a weak, scared little mare. He caught me off guard and seemed to sift through my memories, bringing out the worst of them. I couldn't stay here if this is what I would do every time he approached me. My heart beat a mile a minute and I prayed he wouldn't hurt me, I still can't trust them, I probably never will.

Hirisho whinnied softly to her when she shied away only because he wanted her to feel comfortable here since it seemed like she had a bad thing with stallions. When the breeze came he watched her and saw that she could be a good mare if treated right. He saw the wave in her mane and tail and smiled sweetly before perking his ears up when he heard the whimper come from her. "You okay?" he softly said hoping she was but just in case she wasn't he backed up a little before putting his head down just to sniff some of the grass. Once he found good enough grass he snorted at it before grabbing the clump with his teeth and pulling it out of the ground. When he straightened out his neck he felt one side was heavier than the other side and he wondered why. It turns out that not only did he pull out grass he also pulled out a clump of dirt that clung to the grass. "Hey could you tell me what is on the end of this grass?" he said, through clenched teeth as he looked at her and hoped that she would help him.

I watched him, listening to his question. "umm," I said and giggled. "You have a big chunk of dirt on the end" I told him. I shook my head as my smile vanished. "just bit the grass at an angle and you'll just get the lusher part of the grass," I instructed. I lowered my head and bit many blades of grass at an angle. "see," I said and chewed it. I sighed and looked towards the woods, pondering the thought of leaving, but also the thought of staying. I looked back at the stallion and watched him for a couple minutes. He wasn't bad looking, but he was a stallion. How could I trust him? Again, sadness flashed over me. I walked slowly over to the river and walked in, the water up to my whithers. Just the tips of my mane became wet, the wind still blew my many into the air. I stared down at the water and watched my reflection. I hardly had any scars any longer but the emotional scar took over my life.

When Hirisho heard her giggle all he could do was open his mouth in surprise letting the grass and dirt fall to the floor. "Wow.." was all he said, before closing his mouth and nodding his head to her suggestion. "I will try that next time." he said, before nickering to her. He saw her still questioning whether to stay or leave just from the way she looked from the woods. He snorted out a little before dropping his head and using the advice that she told him to do and was happy that he was finding success at nibbling on the grass. When he noticed that she was going into the water he smiled and saw that the water level was at her withers. He trotted over and dipped his muzzle in the water before he quickly raised his head making a little bit of water fly into her direction. All he did was act innocent afterward just so she knew it was him and hopefully she would giggle again only because he liked the way she sounded when she giggled.

Water fell on my rump, I sped forward and my ear pinned to my neck. I turned and saw it was just the stallion. I sighed and shook my head, "sorry," I muttered and wadded back to where I was before, this time facing the stallion. He didn't know my name yet, I wondered if I should tell him or not. I drank a couple sips and then threw my muscular neck, beads of water flying everywhere. I inhaled deeply and glanced up at the sky. Clouds had started to move in, darkening the Earth. I grunted and wondered if there would be a storm soon, then I would have to find cover. I turned my attention back to the stallion and looked him over, better this time. His bold chestnut coat and the odd C on his forehead. I shouldn't be calling that odd since I have about the weirdest blaze on Earth. I shorted and shook my head before walking to the shallower part of the river, a bit closer to the stallion this time. I lowered my front side down, then the back, laying with my legs under me. I let out a held breath and closed my eyes, the water felt so soothing.
